Stanley Freeman Druckenmiller is an American investor, hedge fund manager and philanthropist. He is the former chairman and president of Duquesne Capital, which he founded in 1981. He closed the fund to outside investors in 2010 to focus on managing his own wealth through the firm. From 1988 to 2000, he managed money for George Soros as the lead portfolio manager for Quantum Fund. He is best known for his role in shorting the British pound in September 1992, an event known as "Black Wednesday," which generated over $1 billion in profit and earned him recognition as one of the greatest currency traders of all time. Druckenmiller's investment philosophy centers on top-down macro investing, focusing on major economic trends and geopolitical events to make large, concentrated bets.
